What We Know To Be True

What do you believe about yourself? Of these beliefs, what do you know to be absolute, beyond a shadow of a doubt, truth?

Most of us have many beliefs about ourselves. We label ourselves as not smart enough, not pretty enough, not successful enough, too short, our noses too big, we talk too loud, always late, not fit enough …but none of these statements are facts. These statements are beliefs and opinions that we have assigned to ourselves based on the assumptions and judgments of others, that we have blindly accepted as truths.

Today, we challenge you to write down the things that you believe about yourself. Then, do a deep dive….

Ask yourself:

  • Are any of these statements opinions?

  • Which are judgments of yourself that you have heard from others and have accepted as truth?

  • Which ones stem from self-doubt?

  • Which are temporary, changeable behaviors?

Now - look at your list again - what do you believe about yourself and know to be a fact? Most likely, your list just got incredibly small, perhaps even, non-existent.

The things that we believe about ourselves are very rarely fact.

If you have lost the majority of your list, it is because the things that we believe about ourselves are very rarely facts. We have just given these beliefs power and have allowed them to dictate how we see ourselves and how we manage our lives. Our real power comes from knowing that it is our beliefs that influence our behavior. If you believe you aren’t smart, your capacity for education is now limited. If you believe you are not fit enough, you will always lack in physicality. Your mind will always validate the beliefs that you hold about yourself.

If you want to see yourself differently, you have to start believing different things. Work on building a new identity and fill yourself with new thoughts, new experiences, and new beliefs. Remember, your mind will support anything you give it, so why not give it a better version of you?
